Billy Elliot the musical cleans up the Tony’s 2009 however, my love for this story started with the movie (2000). The story set during the UK miners’ strike (1984–1985), under the spectre of Thatcherism follows a working class boy who wants to become a dancer. It obvious a coming of age film and provides a universal social commentary that deals sensitively with a number of themes. However, the three themes that stand out for me are the interweaving of family, friendship and acceptance that underpin this story. What it confirms for me is that if you want acceptance always be true to yourself.
